Speaking at a meeting with Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar on Sunday, Rahmani Fazli stressed the need for the strengthening of ties with brotherly neighboring country of Afghanistan and the boost of political, economic, cultural and security cooperation.
He added that “our common enemies, the US, Israel and their regional agents, seek the spread of insecurity in the region, what we now are witnessing in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.”
Pointing to the holding of the 5th session of Iran-Afghanistan Joint Commission in the current week in Tehran, Rahmani Fazli said agreements in various fields, including water issues, Afghan refugees, drug trafficking, transit and border security are among the goals of the summit in Tehran.
Interior minister emphasized the need to counter the Afghan nationals illegally residing in Iran and said “We have to help each other prevent such events, since the legal route is provided for Afghan nationals to travel to Iran.”
He also stressed Iran's readiness to implement economic projects in Afghanistan and to contribute to provide viable alternatives to illicit drug cultivation.
Mohammad Hanif Atmar, for his part, expressed satisfaction with friendly cooperation between the two countries, underlining that “our friendship with Iran has become a national treasure for Afghanistan.”
He also praised the Islamic Republic of Iran on the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries and stressed Afghanistan's determination to combat deviant groups such as ISIL.
“We believe there is no good terrorism, and the best way to fight terrorism is to strengthen the friendly ties between countries.”
