TEHRAN, Aug. 07 (MNA) – Parliament speaker has honored the media society of country on the occasion of National Journalists Day.

Ali Larijani who was speaking in Sunday’s Parliament open session congratulated journalists and reporters on their day and believed that the work of journalists provided a pillar to country’s development.

His special regard however went to journalists representing their media in the Parliament; “attempts should focus to provide guarantees that journalists and reporters feel that their jobs are secure from external encroachments and dangers; I recommend Parliament’s Cultural Commission and the government as well to address the issue accordingly,” Mr. Larijani told Parliament.

National Journalists Day on Mordad 17th on Iranian calendar (this year August 7) commemorates martyrdom of Iranian correspondent of the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA) in Afghanistan Mahmoud Saremi who was killed in Taliban attack on Iran's consulate in Mazar Sharif 18 years ago, and is the day where the state and the public uphold the place of journalists and reporters.
