Speaking during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Riza Hakan Tekin on Sunday, Head of the Strategic Research Center Ali Akbar Velayati hailed Turkish nation’s victory over the coup attempt in the country and expressed pleasure with the holding of meeting after the failed coup.
Velayati emphasied that despite different views of two countries in some cases, "we should not neglect commonalities that are very important for the development of bilateral relations."
Velayati expressed hope that the coup attempt would make Ankara more cautios about the influence of foreign countries who led the coup; “even some countries that have repeatedly claimed friendly ties with Turkey, supported the coup during the incident and turned out to be against the people and the government of Turkey in practice.”
Riza Hakan Tekin, for his part, hailed Iranian officials’ positions towards the coup perpetrators, highlighting that cleanup is underway in Turkey.
Pointing to Iran’s position on the issue, he said, "fortunately in the past 10 years, bilateral relations between the two countries have reached the deepest level and the recent events, depicted the Turkish democracy more than ever before."
