The acting Head of the Interests Section of Egypt in Tehran was summoned by Hamidreza Dehghani, the Head of the Special Department for Middle East and North Africa at Iran's Foreign Ministry, according to the communiqué released by the ministry on Wednesday.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had summoned the Egyptian caretaker to register its strong objections to the attendance of some Egyptian parliamentarians in the weekend rally of anti-Iran terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO).
The senior Iranian diplomat described the measure as an intervention in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Condemning the Egyptians' move, Dehghani added that Egyptian officials are expected to undertake wise policies to contribute to peace and serenity in the region.
Reassuring that he would convey the strong criticism of Tehran to Cairo, the Egyptian diplomat, in the meeting, reiterated that his country is fully observant of the sovereignty of other states.
Before calling the Egyptian diplomat, Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned French Ambassador to Tehran, François Sénémaud, after Paris hosted the rally last week.
