Head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim made the remarks in a Monday meeting with Head of Strategic Research Council of Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where the two sides conferred on the current situation in Iraq.
Hakim went on to maintain that the situation in his country, contrary to certain news that are at times unfortunate and distressing, is undergoing a progressive process.
“The victory of Iraqi Army and Popular Forces in the city of Fallujah has been an important step in the course of Iraq’s complete liberation from ISIL terrorists,” he said.
He expressed hope that the operation of liberating Mosul to be carried out in the current year would make it possible for the country to officially announce the complete eradication of ISIL from Iraq.
Ali Akbar Velayati, for his part, maintained that Fallujah is strategically more important than Mosul, adding “following the reclaiming of Fallujah, everyone attested the fact that Iraq was becoming more stable.”
“Iraq is potentially the most powerful Arab country with the most capacities,” Velyati said. “Given the deep-seated democracy currently in place, one can be hopeful about the prospect of further steps toward the advancement of Iraqi nation.”
The triumph of the government, people and army of Iraq under the guidance of religious authorities has had a significant role in creating a transformation in the region and Arab countries, he added.
