Ali Shamkhani, who also represents the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with visiting President of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar al-Hakim in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where the two sides conferred on the latest developments in the region.
Shamkhani expressed his congratulations on the liberation of the Iraqi city of Fallujah from terrorist groups that happened with the help and cooperation between the Iraqi Army and the Popular Forces, adding “following on the path of internal unity and utilizing domestic capacities will prove to be a successful and reliable experience in the fight against terrorism, particularly for the liberation of the city of Mosul.”
He went on to add, “suicide attacks and blind bombings carried out by ISIL that have caused the death of innocent civilians in Iraq stem from the anger terrorists feel due to their failures, and the consequences of these atrocities will fall upon the terrorists themselves and their masters.”
“While the US and its allies were busy justifying their presence and destabilizing actions in the region with their 7-year plan for combating terrorism in Iraq and Syria, the people and security forces of Iraq showed that the complete annihilation of ISIL will be quickly achieved by relying on internal capacities,” he stressed.
He further added that the strategic advances of the Syrian Army and Popular Forces at the Aleppo front will soon radically alter the field conditions in the main zone of conflict.
Ammar al-Hakim, for his part, presented a report on the latest developments in Iraq, political process and field operations, and commended Iran’s position in backing Iraq in the fight against ISIL terrorist group.
He further maintained that some internal conflicts that are provoked by outside forces will be settled through the alertness of religious authority, the Iraqi government and nation, and national capacities will be besieged toward combating terrorism.
