TEHRAN, Jul. 04 (MNA) – Iran’s national volleyball team managed to beat Argentina 3-2 at the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World League in Tehran on Sunday evening.

Held in the third week of FIVB Volleyball World League, Iran and Argentina met at the 12,000-seat hall of Tehran's Azadi Sport Complex at 21:00 local time.

Both teams had failed to qualify for the Final Six in Krakow though they offered an eye-catching performance with the Iranian side coming out victorious.

Raul Lozano’s boys were successful in the first, fourth and fifth sets (25-23, 25-22 and 16-14) while they conceded defeats in the second and third sets (22-25, 21-25).

The Iranian outfit comprised Saeid Marouf, Seyed Mohammad Mousavi, Adel Gholami, Hamzeh Zarrini, Mobasheri, Mojtaba Mirzajanpour as well as Mahdi Mahdi offering a different combination then previous encounters.

Volleyball players of Iran had the lead during the first set until Mirzajanpour finished the set at 25-23.

Meanwhile, it was Argentina who had the upper hand in the following two sets despites excellent reception and quick attack by Iran.

In the fourth set, the two teams tied at 8-all while Iran maintained the lead for the rest of the rally before finished at 25-22.

The hosts also started the final set better with a 6-3 lead. Argentina managed a last-minute comeback to tie the score, but it wasn't enough as Iran snatched the final two points, and the tiebreak, 16-14.

Accordingly, Iran finished seventh overall in the international tournament given their 4 victories and 5 losses with a total of 9 points.

Argentina, however, landed ninth due to having three wins and six failures.
