Mohammad Arzandeh, who previously represented Iran in 2012 London Olympic Games, jumped for 8.16 meters at the Kazakh event in order win Iran’s eighth Olympic spot in athletics increasing the country’s overall quota to a total of sixty.
In the same event, Sobhan Taherkhani of Iran finished third jumping 7.90 meters.
Iran’s female discus thrower Leila Rajabi won the title of the international sportive tournament throwing 17.40 meters.
Also, Reza Moghadam stood on the top podium of Men’s hammer throw event after setting a record of 69.20 meters.
The athletics outfit of Iran present at the two-day competition comprises Reza Moghadam (hammer throw), Maryam Tousi and Ali Khadivar (200m sprint), Reza Ghasemi (100m & 200m), Sajjad Hashemi (400m), Mostafa Ebrahimi and Sajad Moradi (800m), Keyvan Ghanbarzadeh and Mohammadreza Vazifehdoost (high jump), Mohammad Arzandeh and Sobhan Taherkhani (long jump), Mohammad and Mahmoud Samimi (discus throw) as well as Leila Rajabi (shot put).
Athletics practitioners of Iran have so far secured eight places at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games while more berths can be added after meeting the qualification mark at XXVI International Meeting G. Kosanov Memorial in Almaty of Kazakhstan on June 25 and 26, 2016.
