Moscow International Film Festival, founded in 1935, is one of the most prestigious cultural events in the world and will be holding its 38th edition on 23-30 June, 2016, where Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi will have a chance to showcase his latest flick to Russian audience.
‘The Daughter’ narrates the life of Mr. Azizi who leads an uneventful family life in an oil town of southern Iran. One day, his daughter Setareh, much exasperated by her father's authoritarianism, announces she is off to Tehran which is met with his father’s objections as the engagement celebrations of Setareh's younger sister are taking place simultaneously. This act of disobedience sets in motion a series of perturbations that upset the calm tranquility of the paterfamilias.
Mirkarimi has previously won the Best Film Award (Golden Goerge award) at 2008 Moscow festival for his ‘As Simple as That’, while ‘Today’, ‘A Cube of Sugar’ and some other films by this director have been translated into Russian.
