“Twenty groups of terrorists who intended to run sabotage plots in Iran, were identified and arrested in the last year [of Iranian calendar: March 21, 2015- March 21, 2016],” said Iran's Intelligence Minister, Mahmoud Alavi, on Friday in Tehran.
The official made the remark addressing the people who attended the weekly rituals of Tehran Friday Prayers in Grand Musalla of Imam Khomeini, before ceding the lectern to the interim leader of the ritual, Ayatollah Emami Kashani.
Alavi made a comparison between security in Iran and the neighboring countries, and boasted that in a year that even France and Belgium were hit by terrorist attacks, Iran enjoyed a good status of tranquility.
“In the last year, 54 tones of traditional narcotics and 2 tones of modern illegal drugs were discovered, 17 centers of narcotics production were closed, and 291 gangs of traffickers were devastated,” said the minister recounting the measures of his department on countering the spread of narcotics.
Land rent was another area of crimes that the Intelligence Ministry had countered in the last year, and Alavi recounted the areas of land retaken from land renters or prevented from being rented.
