TEHRAN, May 18 (MNA) – Popular Campaign against US Appropriation of Iran’s Assets has been established, with highly popular actor Parviz Parastouei elected as Secretary-General.

The campaign seeks to bolster efforts to protect Iran’s Central Bank assets appropriated by a US court verdict on baseless claims that Iran had played a role in a blast in Beirut in 1983 which had killed 243 US military personnel.

Parastouei announced to reporters the mission and vision of the Campaign; “as a people of difficult days during history, Iranians have been hardened to the plights of the days of yore enough to show resolve to defend their rights through legal and civilian means, and effectively deprive enemies of their excuses to inflict this nation the harshest sufferings; we call anyone of any belief and ideology but loving Iran to join this campaign which seeks to show the world that it would not allow any country to easily appropriate its rights,” he emphasized.

The statement also signed by the campaign cineastes was addressed to Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General; “we, the signatories of this statement call Iranians to consider this letter of protest to your excellency about the US court verdict on appropriation of Iran’s Central Bank assets, which we believe as totally illegal, and violating the international conventions of immunity of foreign assets, to joint efforts to counteract the US action,” read the statement.

Notable among the artists and celebrities who signed the statement are Davoud Rashidi, Ali Nasirian, Mohammad Ali Keshavarz, Jamshid Mashayekhi, Jaleh Olov, Ebrahim Hatamikia, Majid Majidi, Reza Kianian, Fatemeh Motamed Aria, Seyed Reza Mirkarmimi, Kayoumars Pourahmad, Pouran Derakhshandeh, Kamal Tabrizi, Fereydoun Jeirani, Jamal Shourjeh, Jafar Panahi, Narges Abiyar, Homayoun Ershadi, and Mehran Rajabi, to name a few among tens of others joining the campaign.
