TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) – Iran’s national sabre fencing team landed ninth in team competitions of Spain’s Senior World Cup with three wins and one loss.

Competing at team section of the 34th Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team dubbed as ‘Villa de Madrid’, the Iranian squad struck an off draw in the table of 32 before conceding a 43-45 defeat against France in a tough table of 16 encounter.

Comprising Mojtaba Abedini, Ali Pakdaman, Mohammad Rahbari and Farzad Baher Arasbaran, Iran’s outfit failed to reach the group of top eight teams following the unbelievable loss to French rivals and had to compete for 9th to 16th ranking.

Peyman Fakhri’s boys overcame Poland 45-21 and prevailed over Spain 45-35 to set up a date with Georgia in their final fixture.

Sabre fencers of Iran smashed Georgian rivals 45-28 in order to finish ninth in the international sportive event with a total of three victories and one loss.

The 34th Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team dubbed as ‘Villa de Madrid’ was competed in the Spanish capital of Madrid on May 13, 14 and 15th.
