Sergei Lavrov made the remarks during a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting in Baku on Thursday.
Zarif and Lavrov, while discussing latest regional developments, underlined the need to expand banking and consular cooperation in order to further facilitate the bilateral cooperation.
“Progress has been made regarding the economic ties, reduction of tariffs and easing the customs regulations, however there exist lots of fields to expand ties further,” said Zarif.
Russian top diplomat, for his part, reaffirmed Russia’s support for Iran’s full membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization and said President Vladimir Putin has issued the order to remove anti-Iran banking sanctions.
The foreign ministers meanwhile expressed satisfaction of Iran-Russia defense cooperation stressing the necessity to continue the collaboration.
Latest Syrian developments and the international efforts to put an end to the crisis through political talks also were discussed by foreign ministers Zarif and Lavrov.
