"Iran has always called for end to conflicts in the region of Karabakh," said Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Wednesday upon arrival in Azeri capital city of Baku.
The Iranian chief of diplomacy has travelled to the neighboring country to attend a trilateral meeting along with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
Zarif added that following the talks between President Hassan Rouhani of Iran and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev made during Aliyev’s visit to Tehran in late February, it was set to have follow-up meetings between the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia.
Transit and other areas of cooperation are to be examined during the meetings, said the top diplomat saying that the first sitting would be held on Thursday and it would be a good occasion for discussing important regional and international issues.
The issue of Syrian crisis and the latest development in the war-torn country is to be discussed by Zarif and Lavrov on Thursday.
"We talked with Turkish and Azeri FMs on Tuesday in Iran's Ramsar but bearing in mind the latest developments in the region it is a good opportunity to talk with Azeri FM again," said Zarif referring to the latest conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia in disputed area of Nagorno-Karabakh.
