According to the official website of Iran's Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has agreed to extend pardons and issue commutations to and for those convicts who fulfill the conditions proposed by Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani on the occasions of the Islamic Republic Day and Iranian mothers' Day.
According to the decree all who had received verdicts in public and Revolutionary courts, Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces (Military Disciplinary Courts), and administrative courts, and meet one of the twelve articles of Ayatollah Larijani's proposal and are not among one of the 13 categories of high profile felonies received the pardon.
A public holiday in Iran, Islamic Republic Day is on the 12th day of Iranian month of Farvardin which coincides with April 1st or March 31 in Gregorian calendar. The day is a national commemoration of the historic referendum in which Iranians overwhelmingly voted for the establishment of the Islamic Republic following the collapse of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in 1979.
This year the March 31st marks the 37th anniversary of the landmark referendum held on March 30-31, 1979.
