TEHRAN, Mar. 09 (MNA) – On the second day of 2016 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships in Dubai, Iran’s Paralympian athletes bagged 8 medals including 4 golds.

Competing in the women’s shot put F52-55 category on Tuesday, Iran’s Marzieh Sadeghi claimed the title with a throw of 6.53 meters.

Iranian sportswoman was followed by India’s Deepa Malik and Karam Jyoti who received silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The other Iranian Paralympian Ahmad Ojaghlou took part in the men's 200m T47 final section, and clocked 22.58 seconds to grab the gold medal.

Sandeep Singh Singh of India received the silver in the same event with a record of 22.84 while the bronze medal was scooped up by China’s He Haican with 23.00 seconds.

Iranian pitcher Maryam Soltani added one more gold medal to Iran’s tally with her record of 16.21 meters in the women’s javelin throw F34 discipline.

Soltani’s teammate Faezeh Kermani earned the silver medal with a throw of 13.97 meters followed by the host country’s athlete Thuraya al-Zaabi who won the bronze medal with 10.47 meters.

Later on Tuesday, Iranian contestant Arash Khosravi received the silver medal with his best effort of 57.98 seconds in the men's 400m T12 division.

Suphachai Songphinit of Thailand won the gold medal with a winning time record of 55.14 seconds, and Ankur Dhama from India claimed the bronze with 58.45 seconds.

In the men’s javelin throw F53/54 section Iran’s Hamed Amiri and Abdolreza Jokar threw 24.10 and 17.37 meters respectively winning a gold and silver medal followed by Saleh al-Anazi who bagged the bronze medal with a throw of 16.96 meters.

So far in the event, the Iranian squad has earned 11 medals comprising of 6 gold, 4 silver and one bronze medal.

The 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships opened in Dubai, the UAE, on March 6, and will conclude on March 12.

The tournament has brought together about 300 athletes from almost 30 countries, and is ongoing in Dubai Police Club Stadium.

A total of 29 athletes, 23 sportsmen and six sportswomen, represent the Islamic Republic of Iran at the 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships.
