Strengthening bilateral cooperation on all-out areas especially legal, judiciary, and of human rights was underlined by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez and Iranian top human rights official Mohammad Javad Larijani in the meeting they had on Wednesday.
The two officials met on the sidelines of the 31st UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
In addition to those areas of cooperation between Tehran and Caracas which were established in the past, namely economy, oil, trade, investment, and alike, all other areas of potential cooperation like human rights’ affairs and judiciary issues are open to joint hands, said Mohammad Javad Larijani, the Secretary General of Iranian High Council for Human Rights inviting Venezuelan FM Rodriguez to expansion of international and bilateral ties.
Asking for support from Iran’s international friends, Larijani voiced his firm disagreement with some-EU-members-brokered UN resolution which re-appointed Ahmed Shaheed as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran.
In the same meeting, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez declared that Venezuela shares the same stance on human rights with Iran and described the assigning of a special human rights rapporteur for any country as unfair and in contradiction to the mechanism of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
