TEHRAN, Mar. 02 (MNA) – The 2015 Iran Human Development Report was put on view in Tehran in the presence of Iran’s Deputy FM as well as the UN resident coordinator in Iran.

The 2015 Iran Human Development Report was unveiled on Wednesday morning in Tehran in a ceremony attended by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Iran Gary Lewis as well as a group of foreign ambassadors and charge d'affaires in Tehran.

According to the report, the Human Development Index (HDI) of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been 0.766 in the year 2014 residing upper category of human development.

The 2015 Report ranks Iran at 69 out of 188 countries.

“Iran ranked 75 out of 187 countries in the year 2013 with an HDI of 0.749 while the 2015 report indicates a 6-spot jump in the country’s ranking marking the greatest improvement over the past eight years,” said Gary Lewis.

UNDP Resident Representative further said “during the period from 1990 to 2014, Iran’s HDI has risen from 0.567 to 0.766 showing a 35-percent growth in the index.”

“From 1980 to 2014, Iran’s life expectancy at birth has increased by 21.3 years while expected years of schooling as well as mean years of schooling have both experienced a 5.9-year augmentation,” noted the official underlining “GNI per capita of Iran has climbed by 52.9 percent during 1980-2014.”

The official went on to add that Long-term progress can usefully be compared to other countries; “for instance, during the period between 1990 and 2014 Iran, Sri Lanka and India experienced different degrees of progress toward increasing their HDIs with Iran’s 2014 HDI of 0.766 is above the average of 0.744 for countries in the high human development group and above the average of 0.607 for countries in South Asia.”

Touching upon Gender Development Index (GDI), UNDP) Resident Representative in Iran maintained “the 2014 female HDI value for Iran is 0.689 in contrast with 0.804 for males, resulting in a GDI value of 0.858.”

“Female and Male life expectancy indices for Iran are 76.5 and 74.3 years, respectively both above the world average; expected years of schooling for women and men in Iran are 15 and 15.2 still higher than the global average; moreover, mean years of schooling is 7.7 for females and 8.6 for males in Iran,” confirmed Gary Lewis.

UN Resident Coordinator in Iran concluded that based on a survey carried out in 2013, Iran has been the second best country in improving its Human Development Index (HDI) after South Korea.
