BRUSSELS, Feb. 26 (MNA) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, urged Friday the members of the European Union (EU) to reduce the unilateral measures to stop the migratory flow.

"I disagree with the unilateral actions and today I heard many other countries to also show their disagreement to the disordered approach; we need some order", stated Grandi referring to the migrant referenda recently presented by countries such as Hungary and Slovakia.

At the end of the meeting of EU Interior Ministers held in Brussels on the subject, he criticized the 'chaotic' management of many countries in the European bloc to the growing migration crisis.

He also considered that the positions taken so far prevented " the real needs of protection" of political refugees who, since 2015, come to the coasts and borders the so-called old continent in search of asylum. These people already amount to more than a million in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Grandi said that one of the greatest needs the EU is currently facing is promoting legal options to migrants and keep a tight rein on the human trafficking mafias who get benefits from the desperation and urgency of those in need, shipping them in dangerous sea crossings.

In an attempt to reach Europe, about 400 migrants died while only in the first two months of 2016, more than 110,000 migrants completed the journey. Even when they reach their destination, their future remains a mystery.
