TEHRAN, Feb. 17 (MNA) – Three Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have reached the finals of 2016 Asian Championships in Thailand.

Senior Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling Asian Championship began today in Bangkok, Thailand and so far five Iranian representatives have appeared on the mat.

In 66kg weight category, Mahdi Zeidvand struck an off draw in the first round while later he conceded a 3-0 defeat against Giuk Choi of South Korea and will compete against the Chinese Gaoquan Zhang in his next encounter.

Iran’s Payam Bouyeri, wrestling in 75kg, overwhelmed Rabie Khalil of Palestine 8-0 before defeating Junjie Na of China 2-0.

However, Bouyeri failed to overcome the Kazakh rival Doszhan Kartikov and will meet Shermet Permanov of Turkmenistan in an attempt to bag the bronze medal.

In 80kg, Ramin Taheri pummeled Yuya Maeta of Japan 8-0 by technical fall in the first round and later downed Kazakhstan’s Askhat Dilmukhamedov 3-3.

Competing in the semifinal round, Taheri executed another technical fall over Dinh Hieu Nghim of Vietnam 8-0 on road to the finals where he will fight against Aisha Aishan of China.

In 98kg weight category, Mahdi Aliyari thrashed the Turkmen rival Arslan Saparmammedov by technical fall before he obtained a 4-2 victory over the Bahraini Greco-Roman wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Abdelfattah Mohamed.

Aliyari powerfully trounced Seungjun Kim of South Korea by another technical fall finding his way to the finals where he will face the Indian athlete Hardeep Hardeep.

Competing in 130kg category, Iran’s Amir Ghasem Monjazi breezed past Kazakhstan’s Damir Kuzembayev 6-0 in his first encounter before he prevailed over Muminjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Monjazi will appear on the mat with Murat Ramonov of Kyrgyzstan in the finals of 130kg.

Senior Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling Asian Championship is underway in Bangkok, Thailand on February 17-21, 2016.
