TEHRAN, Feb. 07 (MNA) – Iran’s Defense Ministry has unveiled seven national projects of Army’s geographical office.

On Sunday, Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan provided comments on 7 achievements of the office in the seventh day of the Ten Day Dawn commemorations marking anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Imaging spectroscopy for remote sensing laboratory, the first ever autonomous unmanned surface vessel for hydrographic measurement Fajr-1, Makran coastal land planning project, assembly line of new generation of electronic maritime maps, magnetic flowmeter system, digital geomorphological mapping (DGM), country-wide climate database, and assembly line of locationing information using data from drones were achievements unveiled in the Geographical Organization of Iranian Armed Forces.

“The images coming from spatial systems provide very useful devices for land resources management, defense, disaster management, and grand-scale policy making, since they present a diverse sorts of geographical phenomena,” said defense minister, “digital spectral library establishment entails using different methods of field and laboratory research; the library is an infrastructure for recoverable data from satellite sources as well as for passive defense.”

“Design and manufacture of Fajr-1 autonomous unmanned surface vessel for hydrographic measurement is the product of an attempt to address needs of the military and a knowledge-based company has contributed in the manufacture; this is a modern system of data mining in gulfs, shallow waters, wetlands, and marshlands, which gives access to strategic and sensitive zones and even facilitates regular surveillance in difficult marine environments,” Dehghan detailed.

On new digital marine maps and flowmeter systems, defense minister emphasized on the coordinating role of the Islamic Republic of Iran according to International Hydrographic Organization zoning in meeting military and nom-military needs and compliance with international standards of safety; “the hydrography center of the Geographical Organization has developed maps which display depth, local descriptions, ground, marine and coastal formations, and navigation improvements for marine safety,” Dehghan told the unveiling meeting.

“The Geographical Organization have in its disposal hard and software resources and cooperation of University of Tehran Geographical Institute in developing the geomorphological map and data base; digital maps are of applications in environmental issues, agriculture, construction, land use planning, passive defense, and other military and non-military uses and provides excellent grounds for defense studies, locationing and military force deployment, and military structures,” he commented.
