Following the competing atomosphere overwhelming European countries to develop ties with Iran in the post-sanctions era, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will pay an official visit to Iran, at the head of a high ranking delegation of politicians, economists, industrialists and businessmen on Februaru 7-8 to sign several memoranda of cooperation with the authorities of our country, Iranian Ambassador to Greece Majid Motallebi Shabestari told IRNA's correspondent.
Greek Minister for Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism George Stathakis, Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Panagiotis Skourletis, and a number of deputies and managers of Greek ministries, as well as 50 corporate executives, businessmen and industrialists will accompany Alexis Tsipras to Tehran, Motallebi Shabestari added.
Iranian ambassador said the two countries can cooperate in many fields, especially in the field of oil and energy, transport, tourism, industry, ports and shipping, academic and cultural cases, holding art festival and etc.
Greece is aiming to strengthen ties with Iran and boost economic relations after illegal economic sanctions lift, in a step toward the country’s reintegration into the international system.
Following the landmark nuclear deal allowing the lifting of years-long sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Greece and Iran launched discussions to resume Iranian oil deliveries to Greece two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, last week a delegation of representatives from Greece’s tourism sector, headed by the secretary general of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), Dimitris Tryfonopoulos, paid an official two-day visit to Tehran aiming to establish closer cooperation between the two countries in the area of tourism.
