VIENNA, Jan. 20 (MNA) – The Austrian Finance Minister, Hans Joerg Schelling, announced the possible adoption of initiatives to strengthen borders security and make the country less attractive for migrants.

According to him, today will take place a meeting with provincial and local leaders on the continuing influx of refugees, after which the government hopes to implement regulations in response to this situation.

The measures will be aimed towards an increased assurance of borders, the establishment of a cap number of undocumented immigrants to be received and the conversion of Austria in a less attractive country for foreigners, he declared.

He also stated that requests to the EU will be made.

Austria is one of several countries in the Schengen free movement area that maintains systematic controls at its borders areas to curb the flow of migrants.

The President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, on Tuesday reiterated his concern about the implementation of such initiatives, which he considers dangerous for the operation of the block.

'Today we reintroduce border controls, tomorrow we will see that this has a considerable economic cost and later we will ask ourselves why a single currency if there is no freedom of movement', he warned.
