Abbas Jafari Dowlatabdi told reporters on Saturday that according to decisions made by SNSC (Supreme National Security Council) and in line with the expediencies of the system, “these prisoners have been released from prison in an exchange-extradition framework.”
Jafari Dowlatabadi did not provided any further details including the nationalities and the names of the prisoners. However, speculations on the media had conjectured that Washington Post's journalist Jason Rezaian who was charged with espionage could be among the prisoners exchanged. Saeid Abedini and Amir Hekmati are othe rnames speculated by media reports to be among the four freed prisoners.
The release comes on the day of JCPOA expected implementation.
