Nasrollah Sardashti, Commercial Director of the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), told Mehr News on Friday that the passage of oil tankers through international and territorial waters is subject to a set of global regulations and one country alone cannot violate these rules.
Sardashti dismissed the possibility of any disturbance in the passage of Iranian oil tankers toward Europe through the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb which is located between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, and Djibouti and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa, saying “in the current conditions, and even after the severed diplomatic ties with Djibouti, Iran has dispatched about 8 giant oil tankers to the Mediterranean region through Mandeb Strait in a month.”
The NITC director further maintained that in the post sanction era and the resumption of Iran's crude oil exports to European countries, there will be no limitations placed on the passage of Iranian tankers.
Iran plans to increase its daily crude oil production and export capacity to 500,000 barrels per day within a few days after the removal of sanctions following the nuclear accord signed with the 5+1 group of countries on July 14, 2015.
The country then seeks to implement an extensive marketing program in a span of six months and increases its oil export capacity to one million barrels per day.
Accordingly, it is anticipated that after the lift of sanctions, on average, about 200,000-220,000 barrels of Iranian oil would be exported to European countries such as France, Britain, Italy, Spain and Germany.
