Tehran, Jan. 11 (MNA) – IAU’s director general for international affairs has announced ongoing negotiations with Iraqi officials to establish university branches in Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Hossein Ebrahimi, the Counselor to the President and Director General for International Affairs of Islamic Azad University (IAU) said the issue of opening overseas and international branches of the university is under investigation expressing hope that the divisions will get inaugurated in Islamic countries.

Ebrahimi maintained that IAU is currently conducting talks with Sulaymaniyah and Erbil universities in order to provide the grounds for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as well as evaluating the status of higher education in the neighbor country for foundation of international branches.

The official further reported on the opening of IAU’s international scientific offices with the main priority being the inauguration of these agencies in European countries.

“The issue of launching international scientific offices in other countries has been approved by the relevant council at the university and will soon become operational,” he underlined.

Ebrahimi went on to add that “these offices purse a variety of goals including holding joint courses, running international knowledge-based forms, promotion of Persian language and literature as well as expansion of history of Iranian-Islamic civilization.”
