TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (MNA) – Iranian researchers studied and simulated optical behavior of nanostructures that are able to perform well at speed ranges higher than megahertz, INIC reports.

According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), the specific application of the studied nanostructures is in electronics, communications and even medical industries after the completion of studies and industrial production.

Studying and investigation of optical properties in nano-dimensional structures are the basis of nanooptics and nanophotonics. Optical configuration requires some devices that have low volume with low consumption power although they increase the amount of storage and the rate of data processing.

The aim of the researchers in this study was to create nanostructures with high operational speed average that operate at a range of higher than terahertz. Various compounds of metals and chalcogenide materials (a type of insulator) were used to obtain this goal. In other words, the researchers studied and simulated optical properties of nanostructures containing a combination of a few chalcogenide semi-conductors/metals.

Surface plasmonic at high frequency is the most important characteristic of these compounds, which has been evaluated in the research. This behavior is related to plasmonic structures such as combination of chalcogenide materials with metals that have dimension of lower than 100 nm and also high speed like photonic materials that are micrometric in size.

Various results of the research have been published in different journals such as Optik – International Journal for Light and Electron Optics, vol. 26, issue 19, 2015, pp. 2035-2039.
