Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati acted as the interim leader of Tehran’s weekly rituals of Friday Prayers and touched upon a plethora of issues mainly the upcoming elections of Parliament and Assembly of Experts to be held on Friday, February 26, 2016.
I wish that followers of Jesus Christ take him as a role model and, quite like him, avoid oppressing anybody and hasten to help the miserable, said Ayatollah Jannati after offering greetings on the occasion of Christmas.
Pointing to the Week of Unity, which is the period between the two disputed dates of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, one believed by Shias and the other held by Sunnis, he cherished the occasion for its numerable merits for Muslims.
He voiced deep sorrow for the acts and deeds of the heads of the Islamic countries and regretted that despite strategic geopolitics of Islamic countries in the rich energy hub of the world and the total population of 1.5 billion Muslims, they are not united and they suffer a lot because of that.
It is an honor for all of us that we have elections in tranquility and untouched by personal disagreements, however, the high number of nominees who have registered to be vetted is a big burden for the Guardian Council, said the chairman of the council referring to the registration process of the elections of Parliament and the Assembly of Experts.
He maintained that the vetting process is part of what the Leader of the Islamic Revolution held as the observance of the right’s of the citizens who expect the Guardian Council to be careful in checking the history of the nominees and their abilities.
Later the grand Ayatollah reiterated that he and his colleagues in the Guardian Council morally and religiously obliged to follow the law.
Touching upon the murder of hundreds of Muslims in Nigeria, the grand cleric condemned the event and voiced regret that disunity of Muslims led to such a horrific event.
