Marzieh Afkham has entered the capital city of Kuala Lumpur to start mission as Iran’s new ambassador to the southeastern Asian country, Malaysia.
Afkham had served as the former Foreign Ministry spokeswoman and head of the Center for Public and Media Diplomacy in Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the year 2013 until about two months ago.
She was the first female spokesperson for the ministry and was appointed as ambassador to Malaysia on 8 November 2015, becoming the first female Iranian ambassador since the Islamic Revolution.
“It is highly crucial that the experience of the first Iranian woman ambassador turns out to be a successful one,” said Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Afkham’s appointment.
