TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) -- The candidate registration process for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ninth presidential election began on Tuesday.

The variety of candidates and outlooks as well as the enthusiasm of the Iranian nation to learn about the candidates’ platforms promise a massive turnout in the upcoming election, during which the people will elect the best candidate.

Over the course of the past 26 years, Iranians have participated in 25 elections for president, the parliament, and city councils. With their deep understanding of both regional and international issues, they eagerly cast their ballots and elected their favorite candidates.

This very deep understanding and awareness of the Iranian nation of the challenges which threaten both Iran and the Middle East have turned the election process into a sociopolitical mechanism to stabilize the bases of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Democracy, which is one of the characteristics of the Islamic Republic’s system of values, has a special status in the country.

Its importance has increased in the years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Even during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, despite all the bombardments and attacks of the Iraqi Baath military, Iranians resolutely participated in elections.

As a symbol of a culture with national unity at its heart, this consistent voter turnout delivers a clear message, i.e., that despite the ethnic and linguistic diversity of the nation, the Iranian people are not deceived by the divisive slogans of the enemies of the Islamic Republic.

The sense of national cohesion among all Iran’s ethnic groups and their rejection of separatism and negativity are an honor for them. This is a secret which the enemies of the Iranian nation do not want to acknowledge.

Iran’s revolutionary and national values give priority to human dignity over racism, and Iranians feel that all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law. These sentiments are manifested through participation in elections.

Now the people are facing another historic test in Iran’s ninth presidential election. A successful outcome will definitely lead Iran from this critical juncture to a prosperous and glorious future.

Indeed, the whole world is awaiting the Iranian election due to the current situation in the region.

The level of the voter turnout is the key factor this year, regardless of who wins, since it can send a message to the world informing them that, despite all their differences of opinion, Iranians are united on great national issues.

This message would be a boon for the friends of the Islamic Republic but quite frustrating for the enemies.

Although the election atmosphere is still uncertain, polls indicate that the Iranian nation is determined to participate in the June 17 presidential election to create another epic of national solidarity.
