TEHRAN, Dec. 07 (MNA) – Pointing to the increase in the annual export volume of Iranian gas to Turkey, an official at NIGTC said the volume reached more than 9 billion cubic meters in 2014.

Head of Bazargan Gas Metering Station from National Iranian Gas Transmission Company (NIGTC) Sadegh Akbarpour described the status of Iranian gas exports to Turkey adding “according to a 25-year contract, Iran is committed to supply Turkey with a daily 30 million cubic meters of natural gas until the year 2026.”

The official referred to the operation of a new gas compressor facility in the city of Tabriz; “the newly implemented electro compressor has significantly increased the capacity of gas transmission to Turkey,” he underlined.

Recalling that the volume of Iranian natural gas export to Turkey has faced a growing trend, Akbarpour stated “accordingly, more than nine billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey in 2014 while the aggregate sum of gas export to the neighboring country during the years 2012 to 2013 was approximately nine billion cubic meters.”

The official said in order to transfer sour gas from South Pars field to Turkey, we need to build more than 1800km of pipelines and launch 17 gas compression units along the path; “Iran remains committed to meet Turkey’s gas needs on the basis of the agreement hence the possibility of annual export up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas to the neighboring country,” he highlighted.

Akbarpour noted the presence of Turkey's Botas company executives in Bazargan Gas Metering Station adding “the Turkish experts will examine the quantity and quality of the Iranian natural gas.”

The official said “currently, about 30 per cent of Turkey’s gas demand is supplied by Iran and there exists the capacity to transport up to 40 million cubic meters per day of natural gas to Turkey.”

At the end of his remark, Akbarpour refuted the existence of any technical or operational problem in export of gas to Turkey thanks to the new gas electro-compressor facilities in Tabriz which have increased network capacity and stability of Iranian gas exports to Turkey to a substantial degree.
