The Managing Director of Nik Avid Sharif Company Payman Mirzaei said his firm has become the first manufacturer of the ground power unit (GPU) for the aircrafts in the Middle East and one of six producers of the same product in the world and its production in Iran has become fully indigenized.
Mirzaei noted that the preliminary design of the product has conducted by the graduates of Sharif University of Technology adding “the Iranian experts managed to manufacture the first GPU in the Middle East while the technology for manufacturing of the engine that generates ground power for airplanes was only monopolized by Russia, China, the US and Britain in the past.”
Touching upon the use of GPUs, Mirzaei explained that the engine attaches to the airplane and provides the ground power for the airplanes in between two flights when the plane engine is off and there is no electric supply source for the aircraft.
“GPU further checks and controls some airplane systems in the interval between the two flights and also opens the doors of airplanes,” he added.
The official asserted, “the basic model of the device produced two years ago and it was used and evaluated at Orumieh Airport and now having has successful performances, it has entered into mass production phase.”
“Thanks to an expert team with 15 years of experience, our efforts led to the design and manufacturing of a totally domestic product,” underlined Mirzaei adding “both technology and raw materials are indigenous and the device has so far had successful performance."
The companie's managing director further stressed that the device’s diesel engine needs to be fully compatible with environmental conditions in order to be efficient; “therefore, the Iranian version has been modified according to local standards producing a cheaper device than the foreign brands which offers a higher level of proficiency.”
