MOSCOW, Dec. 01 (MNA) – President Barack Obama expressed his regret over downed Su-24 bomber in Syria during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the climate-change summit in Paris, the Kremlin confirmed.

Obama has expressed his regret over Turkey's shoot-down of a Russian plane, Russia's President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov added that both presidents spoke in favour of moves towards the start of political settlement in Syria and highlighted the importance of the earliest possible implementation of the Minsk accords.

Obama's statement in Paris contrasts with his initial response, despite the fact that the warplane was shot down in Syria and that one of the pilots was shot dead after they ejected within Syrian territory.

Back then Obama justified the action arguing that Turkey has the right to defend its borders.
