Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi addressed a large congregation of Basij brigades in Isfahan on Thursday morning, where he criticized Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet, touching upon Syrian crisis and the ensuing civil war which had taken a toll of 250,000 deaths and millions of homeless Syrian people; “two fronts are involved in this highly unfair war; the first is the US and its coalition, Saudi Arabia, Zionist regime, Turkey, and Jordan, and the second is an alliance of Iran, Russia, Iraq, and Hezbollah of Lebanon,” he asserted.
“Targeting and downing of Russian warplane in Syrian air space is a strategic miscalculation in part of Turkey, which will bring serious implications for Turkey and its relations with Russia; Turkey’s miscalculation will be for its detriment, since after years of supporting terrorists and sowing insecurity in Iraq and Syria, this is also confusing for the analysts, and will be highly costly for Turkey,” he told the congregation.
On the origins of Basij in the early days of the Revolution, Gen. Safavi lavished eulogies upon Imam Khomeini (RA) for his decision to establish Basij as a ‘sagacious’ act, and demonstrated his deep insight into the future of the events and highs and downs of the history of the Revolution.
