Ali Larijani who was speaking in a meeting with Luxembourg foreign minister on Wednesday evening, said that the act against Russian plane only would sink the region deeper into crisis and fuel the fire of war.
“Conflict in the region has created a pandemonium, which requires immediate action to return to normalcy; Turkey’s recent downing of a Russian fighter jet was a great strategic error, and Obama’s tepid support for Turkey was also equally a hamartia which only spreads further instability, with the outcome only being forgetting the fight with the major threat, that is, terrorism,” Larijani emphasized.
Larijani believed that more than military root, terrorism has cultural causes which works strongly than military cause. “Western support for terrorism hinges upon a flawed assumption that terrorism as an instrument will serve their interests; this is a failed strategy, since terrorism has already sent its backlash well to western borders,” said the Parliament speaker. “The same flawed strategy now is pursued in Syria; a mentality assumes that with a regime change, peace and stability will be restored to the country, while larger part of the country is under ISIL’s self-proclaimed state. Any pressure to change the regime will only exacerbate the situation,” he told Luxembourg official.
Larijani expressed hope that a time would come when all countries unanimously give the verdict that ISIL and terrorism in general was a great threat to the globe, and which should be deracinated. Jean Asselborn, for his part, said that restoring stability in the region was a crucial issue for the region, since the crisis would threat the EU as well; “I hope that influential countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the US will come to a sort of agreement or consensus on cooperation to defeat terrorism,” he said.
