TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s Minister of Communication and IT Mahmoud Vaezi said “The developments in the Middle East and the regional convergence of Iran and Russia hold capabilities which can lead to the expansion of Tehran-Moscow cooperation.”

Vaezi who is in Moscow for the 12th Joint Cooperation Commission, attended the conference of ‘Iran in the second decade of the 21st century; challenges and prospects”.

During the conference he said Iran-Russia’s commonalities in the cultural and historical fields and their mutual opinions on different issues have provided grounds for further cooperation.”

The two countries enjoy historical links and cultural commonalties which should be preserved and conveyed to the next generation, an issue which is being followed by Iranologists and Russia’s Institute of Oriental Studies, he noted.

The Iranian nation and government value ties with Russia, Vaezi underlined and added “considering region’s situation, the two countries tend to adopt new approaches for expanding bilateral and regional cooperation which we hope will lead to expansion of ties as well.”

Moreover Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai talked about the significance of Iran and Russia’s ties saying “mutual cooperation and ties will now speed up in all fields.”

Furthermore Vyacheslav Belokrenitsky, Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) said “The relations between the two countries experienced many ups and downs in the past few decades but they are now on their way to expansion.”

Russia's ruling system and Putin pay special attention to boosting ties with Iran, he noted.

The conference was held by the Institute of Oriental Studies.
