TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – Iranian FM Zarif advocated a proactive rather than a reactive approach for the country’s policies following the JCPOA as the best way to counter foreign infiltration and influence.

The remarks were made by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a joint meeting of Iranian ambassadors to foreign countries and governors general convened in Tehran on Monday.

Zarif added that a reactive approach inevitably gives more advantages to the other side, therefore it is time for making careful plans and taking the initiative in regard to the JCPOA.

The top diplomat maintained that the JCPOA has created an opportunity for advancing the Islamic Republic’s objectives, expressing urgency that if the country did not plan carefully, it would be faced with serious risks and the enemy would take advantage of the opportunity instead.

“The Islamic Republic’s enemies such as the Zionist regime and American terrorists as well as the friendly countries that have become panicked and confused are devising plans as to how to prevent Iran from benefiting from the nuclear accord. They have made a long-term investment against Iran for several decades in a bid to present a security image of Iran to the world,” said Zarif.

Zarif also warned against the serious threats imposed by extremism and sectarianism, saying the situation is the result of wrong and close-minded policies in the international arena; “some neighboring countries think of extremism as a trump card and not a threat. As long as they have not understood that extremism cannot be of advantage to anyone, we will continue to witness more atrocities committed by Takfiri terrorist groups.”
