TEHRAN, Nov. 06 (MNA) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has said Iran’s perseverance during negotiations with the 5+1 forced the West to change its approach of conflict to dialogue.

Speaking at the 61st meeting of the Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs in Nagasaki, Japan, Ali Akbar Salehi pointed to the allegations raised by the West against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in recent years and the early statges of talks adding, “the US has tried all possible options against Iran without reaching its desired results.”

“It wasn’t until 2011 by the mediation of the Sultan of Oman that the US gradually changed the approach to dealing with the issue of Iran’s nuclear program stopping the policy of ‘zero enrichment’,” he noted.

“The change of approach was accompanied by determination of President Rouhani who had taken office in 2013 and eventually led to an agreement approved by both parties on October 18 that will most likely become operational in late December,” added Salehi.

“It was in the light of the change in approach that America admitted the possibility of achieving a framework for cooperation which closed the routes namely called armed ‘loopholes’ and recognized Iran’s right to possess peaceful nuclear program and enrich uranium," he underlined.

Head of AEOI asserted, “the logical approach in the nuclear negotiations led to the formation of Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA).”

“According to JCPOA, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be considered as a country with peaceful nuclear programs with the right to enrich complete fuel cycle maintain all nuclear infrastructures while as a sign of confidence making, Iran will set certain timed restrictions on its nuclear program,” he highlighted.

Pointing to the universal acceptance of Iran’s nuclear talks with the 5+1, Salehi said, “the achievement has introduced a new approach to the international political system.”

“On the basis of the emerging approach, the power of logic overcomes the logic of power and inherent rights of nations become superior to the intentions of politicians who believe ‘power has the upper hand’,” he noted.

The vice-president further stated, “according to the new approach, in order to have a secure world based on stability and good neighborliness, one must respect the inherent rights of people like sovereignty, self-determination, progress and development which covers peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The official continued his speech by referring to the international efforts for disarmament and said, “Iran stresses the nuclear-weapon states to remain committed to the implementation of Article VI of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).”

“Iran backs the idea of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons the snippet of which was first released in 1974 and was emphasized again in NPT documents in 1995 and 2000,” he added.

Salehi further deemed the Zionist regime as the main obstacle to the implementation of the project in the region because the Zionists have not even accepted to approve of the NPT Treaty.

Head of AEOI expressed sympathy towards the Japanese government survivals of the atomic bombing in Nagasaki; “Iran and Japan have a lot in common and we appreciate Japan’s support of Iran during the course of talks with 5+1,” he stressed.

“After the implementation of JCPOA, Iran will definitely increase scope of collaboration with old and new partners, said the official expressing Iran willingness to benefit from Japan’s cooperation in the field of nuclear safety as well as other areas related to peaceful nuclear activities.”

Pugwash is a reputable international non-governmental conference composed of the world’s elites in the field of disarmament.

In his trip to the city of Nagasaki, Iran’s Salehi visited the city’s Peace Museum, which is reminiscent of the tragedy of the atomic bombing of the city by the US during World War II, and made tribute to the victims of the disaster by donating a wreath in the presence of city officials.
