Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, along with Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, shared the table with foreign ministers from Russia, UK, the US, France, Germany, Egypt, Lebanon and the EU as well as representatives of Iraq, Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Jordan and China to discuss current crisis in Syria.
The event kicked off at noon on Friday at Imperial Hotel of Vienna in Austria, with the Islamic Republic of Iran being invited for the first time to take part during the new round of international talks.
Iran and Russia are the main supporters of Bashar Assad’s administration as they describe him the frontier in war on terror, while Saudi regime is identified, by most politicians and analysts, as the major feeder of anti-Assad terrorists spearheaded by the ISIL.
Formerly, Iran was invited to second Geneva talks on Syrian Crisis, however, US pressures led UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to rescind his invitation.
