BAGHDAD, Oct. 19 (MNA) – Iraqi Army and Police units, backed by Shia militias from the Peoples Mobilization (PM) on Sunday retook the control of the strategic Baiji oil refinery, in the northern Salaheddin province, and killed terrorists in Al-Anbar and Samarra.

The country's main television channels aired footage of the PM fighters, volunteer Shias allied to the Baghdad government, entering the oil refinery and raising the national flag, as they also did in other towns of Salaheddin province.

The Army's victory came hours after the mass offensive called "Allah Messenger, to your Orders," for retaking the total control of the oil refinery, which also allowed to confirm the liberation of Al-Seniya, in western Baiji, on Sunday.

Official sources said that the MP volunteers seized a car bomb that the ISIL terrorist left behind when fleeing, and estimated that the federal government now controls a large area in northern Tikrit, the provincial capital.

A security spokesperson said that the joint armed forces advanced in an operation to liberate al Fathah zone, in northern Tikrit, aimed at getting of Kirkuk.

Shia volunteers and Sunni tribes intensified attacks with heavy artillery, and the infantry's advancement in north-eastern and southern Baiji, to force the ISIL takfitists to withdraw from the area, said the locality mayor Mohamed Mahmoud.
