TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (MNA) – The mass-production of Iran’s smart torpedo dubbed ‘Valfajr’ began today with the presence of Iran’s Defense Minister Dehghan and Navy Commander Sayyari.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, who was present at the inauguration ceremony, said the advanced torpedo system developed by Iranian experts enjoys various features including anti-deception, high speed and highly destructive and explosive warheads with the capability to surprise and completely annihilate and drown targets within seconds.

“What makes Valfajr torpedo stand apart from other similar products in the world is the short preparation time in the supporting and firing units; a characteristic which leads to a remarkable increase in tactical capability and a quick response from surface and subsurface combat units,” said Brig. Gen. Dehghan.

Stressing that Iran’s advanced military equipment is purely for defensive purposes, the minister added “the Islamic Republic armed forces will only target and open fire on those who intend to attack the country.”

Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari also maintained that Valfajr, compared to the previous models, enjoys a more desirable range, as well as higher explosion and destruction precision and power.

Valfajr torpedo system which was unveiled in 2011, has a 220 kilogram warhead, can be launched by submarines and able to operate under different weather conditions.
