Abbas Araghchi made the remarks at the commemoration ceremony of UN's 70th anniversary held in Tehran on Monday morning which was attended by Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Kenneth Eliasson.
Araghchi pointed to the numerous issues including crises in different countries over the past 70 years and added that, “in the case of all these crises, the United Nations was able to face the challenge leading us to the current situation and era.”
“The UN was founded to set a ground for changing the view from conflict to common understanding so that different nations can express their differences,” he added.
Araghchi continued that, “over the past few weeks, the UN has tried to take part in the affected parts of the world but all these efforts must continue.”
Iran’s deputy FM further stated that, “the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been an active partner of the UN by offering positive contribution particularly with regard to the Sustainable Development Program.”
“Iran has been through a transition period in moving forward and acts as a model in the region despite many existing problems and obstacles,” he asserted.
The top-ranked diplomat stressed that, “Iran has supported the top four priorities of Sustainable Development which include health, environment, economy, and fight against drugs.”
“We managed to take effective steps in maintaining our approach towards sustainable development in the world deeming it as a good opportunity to make sure that no one is indifferent to the suffering of other human beings,” he asserted.
Araghchi stressed that, “as part of our joint task, we must prepare a new plan to defend the national and international conditions through the provision of tools at national, regional and international levels.”
Reminding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has become a reliable nation, the official deemed Iran as ‘the island of stability in the region’ which can help maintain the security of all countries in the region.
Iran’s Deputy FM expressed hope that the foreign guests at the conference will announce Iran’s message of peace and dialogue to the whole world.
