TEHRAN, Sep. 30 (MNA) – Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif met his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias on Tuesday in New York City, on the margins of the UN General Assembly.

The two ministers exchanged views on bilateral ties and reviewed the ways to expand relations with respect to the resolution of Syrian crisis.

Kotzias extended his condolences to President Rouhani on the occasion of death of Iranian pilgrims during Hajj pilgrimage in Mina.

Congratulating his counterpart on the reelection of Greek Prime Minister, Zarif welcomed the enhancement of ties between the two countries on the new tenure of Alexis Tsipras.

During the meeting, Greek Foreign Minister announced his upcoming visit to Tehran, which is going to be followed by the travel of Greek Prime Minister to the country.

In addition, the two sides welcomed the support for bilateral ties in international communities.

As part of the meeting, both foreign ministers discussed the need to end the crisis in Syria.

Zarif pointed to the necessity of the absence of any preconditions to end the conflict in the Arab country, and underlined the fight against terrorism, in the first place, and cutting off terrorism at its roots and then forming a national unity government with the participation of all parties involved.

He meanwhile explained the Islamic Republic of Iran's political plan to resolve the crisis in Syria.
