TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iranian deputy FM announced dispatch of an Iranian delegation, headed by Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance to Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

In a phone conversation with IRIB TV1 on Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the Islamic Republic of Iran will dispatch a special delegation including Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, Deputy FM for Consular Procedures Hassan Ghashghavi and a group of other consular officials to investigate tragic incident in Mina on Thursday.

“Iranian delegation will locate the cause of the incident and start an inquiry from the Saudi authorities who should be held accountable in this regard,” Amir-Abdollahian said, adding that the delegation will also hold direct consultations with the special committee established in Mecca to investigate the incident.

The stampede occurred during the ritual known as "stoning the devil" in the tent city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca.

Some 131 Iranians have lost their lives in the incident, while 150 others have been wounded.

According to reports, Saudi forces’ blocking of a passage of pilgrims walking in Mina, led to stampede and death of more than 2000 people from different countries.
