The Cuban Permanent Representative to the UN Headquarters in Geneva Anayansi Rodriguez said that the international community's role is to provide aid in order to safeguard peace and stability in that country, and not inciting to actions that cause death, aggressions to innocent people and lack of safety.
In her speech at the 30th ordinary period of sessions of the UN Human Rights Council, Rodriguez stressed that the international community must focus on undertaking actions that effectively contribute to stop violence, massacres, and terrorist acts that take the lives of innocent people.
The Cuban diplomat also insisted that serious commitments must be made to stop once and forever the supply of arms and money to insurgent groups, and the media manipulation with political purposes of the situation in that country.
“We reject the tendency to disregard the proposals and measures presented by the Syrian Government, and ignore the legal efforts carried out by some nations to prevent that violence continues hitting that nation,” added Rodriguez.
“Cuba considers that interventionist agendas must be put aside and serious efforts must be undertaken in order to find a solution to the crisis, putting the Syrian people's interest in first place, including their right to peace and life,” said the diplomat.
Rodriguez added that it is alarming that millions of human beings continue being forced to take refuge in neighboring states, displaced from the war.
