TEHRAN, Sep. 15 (MNA) – Iranian female and male karatekas have won 7 medals of the Kumite and Kata events of the 4th Male and 2nd Female West Asian Karate Championship Event in the UAE.

Neda Rezaie overpowered the UAE rival and stood champion gaining the gold medal in the single kata category.

The Iranian athletes Parvaneh Ghasemi, Sudabeh Ghasemi and Mahnaz Akhoundzadeh also defeated the Jordanian and UAE teams in the Kumite event and snatched the gold medal.

Iranian male Karatekas also won three medals of the individual Kumite on Monday.

Bahman Asgari won gold medal of the +84 kg, Seyed Amir Mousavi won silver medal of the -67kg and Meysam Rashvand the bronze medal of the -75kg.

Iran’s Seyed Mehdi Mousavipour will compete in the -84 kg category of the team Kumite and Afshin Haijazadeh, Sajjad Ganjzadeh, Meysam Zolqadr, Hamid-Reza Moqaddam as well as Moussavipour, Asgari and Rashvand will take part in the team kumite event on Tuesday.

Held under the supervision of the West Asian Karate Federation (WAKF) and the UAE Taekwondo and Karate Federation, the two-day sporting event kicked off at SLC's state-of-the-art gymnasium on Monday and will wrap up on Tuesday.

Some 10 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon have taken part in the contests, held in Sharjah.
