TEHRAN, Sep. 14 (MNA) – After two successive losses, Iran finally grabbed their first victory at the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship by defeating Cuba in three sets.

Iran’s U21 volleyball team won Cuba 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18) in 1 hour and 41 minutes.

The pupils of Farhad Nafarzadeh lost the first set but managed to stomp Cuba on the next three sets.

Amin Esmaelilnezhad was the best offensive player of the Iranian team by scoring 20 points, 14 of them with powerfull spikes. Saeed Javaheri had 16 tallies, including 3 blocks and 2 aces.

Currently, Iran stands third in this tournament after Brazil and China in Pool C.

On Tuesday, Iran will continue their matches at qualification round for places 9 to 16 together with Japan, America, and Mexico in Pool G.

Iran’s next match will be on Tuesday against America.
