“Nut products are highly strategic goods due to their vital role in the development cycle of non-oil exports,” said Najmeh Ramdani Director of a knowledge-based company.
“Several factors are involved in increasing the quality of dried goods including geographical conditions, climate, and soil but the harvest method, transport and storage of fresh products, dried goods processing consisting of washing, peeling, and packaging are highly influential in maintaining their quality,” she added.
She continued that, “According to statistics, currently the highest share of trade for pistachios and walnuts belongs to the US, for dates to Pakistan and Egypt, and raisins to Turkey while Iran ranks third in the production of walnuts after America and China.”
stating that Iran owning only half a per cent of global trade in walnut production ranks the 11th in the world, Ramdani asserted that, “One of the main reasons for this conflict is the poor quality of packaging and by improving the quality of packaging the value-added of Iran’s walnut will increase in the global markets by rising the amount of its export.
Regarding the production of nano-coatings in the knowledge-based company, the researcher said that, “the developed coating will preserve the nutritional value of walnuts acting like a preservative agent for preventing the growth of mold and yeast during the storage time.”
“It has been proved that by using this nano-coating the quality of walnut will not decrease,” concluded Ramdani.
