Mr. Fischer was received in Mehr Abad Airport by Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Majid Takht Ravanchi, Deputy-Foreign Minister for Europe and American Affairs.
“This visit is a political visit, where I will head high-ranking officials as Austrian vice-chancellor, foreign minister, and other dignitaries,” Mr. Fischer had been quoted by the media before his travel to Tehran.
Mr. Fischer’s entourage includes as members an economic delegation, cultural and scientific team, as well as journalists. He had told reporters before departure to Tehran that EU sought better and peaceful relations with Iran; “we are interested and welcome an Iranian effective role in restoring peace and stability to the Middle East; we welcome Iran’s efforts in finding fair and wise solutions to Syrian crisis in an attempt to end a horrible war,” he had added before.
