Speaking during a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart Jose Garcia-Margallo, Zarif said the regional countries must prevent militants from reaching Syria.
Pointing to the topics discussed during their meeting, Zarif said two sides discussed railroad, transportation cooperation, economic infrastructures, refugee's problem and regional issues.
Garcia-Margallo, for his part, confirmed that the future outlook is totally bright for cooperation with Iran. He ensured that Spain would make utmost efforts to accommodate as many refugees as possible in the countryy. "The country will provide asylum seekers with necessary facilities," Garcia-Margallo said, reiterating that they support referendum and national reconciliation as the best solutions to Syria's problem.
He expressed regret over the humanitarian crisis in the region which is a major crisis due to threats posed by terrorist groups in the region. "This is a major regional and global issue," he said, expressing hope to take joint steps with the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve the crisis.
Spanish FM underlined that the crisis of asylum seekers has also tarnished the image of Europe due to certain improper and inhumane views on the presence of terrorists.
"The terrorist acts in the regional countries have harmed the people and there are shocking figures and statistics in this regard," Garcia-Margallo said, adding that 22 million population of Syria are in need of all-out assistance and look forward to peaceful resolution of crises in their country.
"Any political plan can be agreed upon but what matters is that we should terminate the crisis because people's rights is trapped upon and EU has to make further efforts based on moral and ethical values on refugee's crisis," he added.
Regarding his meeting with Iranian officials, Garcia-Margallo said many topics including the extension of agreements and also visits by both sides were discussed to pave the way for further cooperation with Iran. "Iran is a very important country in terms of economic power and reserves and Spain seeks further expansion of economic and energy ties with the country."
He referred to the newly created political atmosphere, saying that it is indicative of both side's willingness for cooperation. Jose Garcia-Margallo said the Spanish delegation seeks expansion of bilateral cooperation with Iran based on JCPOA.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo hailed the JCPOA, saying that his country is considering cooperation with Iran on all fronts.
He said the agreement clinched between Iran and the 5+1 over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program has laid the ground for closer international cooperation.
The top visiting Spanish diplomat underlined that the foreign ministries of Iran and Spain are to exchange delegations and sign a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation.
